K-ONNECTION connects Kaprun, Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn and enables ski-in ski-out.
The opening up of the Kitzsteinhorn for winter sports and the opening of Salzburg’s only glacier ski area in 1965 was a highly regarded event. The realization of the new K-ONNECTION cable car connection in autumn 2019 is the second epochal step in the history of Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn. It connects the center of the village with the legendary “Kitz” via the popular Maiskogel family ski area: the new K-ONNECTION brings significantly shorter distances for guests and winter sports enthusiasts, for the first time ski-in, ski-out in Kaprun to and from the glacier and maximum comfort in the newly built Kaprun Center including valley station, cash desks, ski depot and sports shop. The cable car connection opens up unique perspectives and fascinating views of the untouched, high-alpine winter landscape in each of its sections. It is the realization of a generation project. Over a length of twelve kilometers from the valley station to TOP OF SALZBURG, 2,261 meters of altitude are overcome and at the same time four climatic and vegetation zones are crossed. The heart of the K-ONNECTION is the 4.3 kilometer long 3K K-ONNECTION: Salzburg’s first three-cable gondola connects the mountain station of the new MK Maiskogelbahn (1,570 m) with the middle station Langwied (1,976 m) on the Kitzsteinhorn. A new design highlight is set with the world premiere of the new ATRIA panorama cabins from Doppelmayr for 32 people.
Facts:
- Altitude 768 – 3,029 m, snow guarantee from October to May
- 23 cable cars and lifts
- 61 kilometers of slopes
